Medication Aides are responsible for renewing their registry listing prior to the expiration date.
DHSR does not send notifications to Medication Aides of their upcoming registry listing expiration date.
North Carolina does not list Medication Aides by reciprocity, endorsement, or transfer from other states.
An individual cannot be listed in the North Carolina Medication Aide Registry for Nursing Homes without first being listed in the North Carolina Nurse Aide I Registry.
It is the responsibility of each Medication Aide to update their name and contact information in the registry. Click here to obtain the Name and Address Change Form.
A listing in the North Carolina Medication Aide Registry for Nursing Homes must be renewed every 24 consecutive months. Qualified work must occur in a North Carolina Nursing Home and meet all the following criteria:
Private duty employment does not meet the qualifications for registry renewal. Medication Aide hired by a licensed healthcare facility or agency to provide medication administration services in the home is NOT considered private duty employment for registry renewal. Medicaid CAP/DA Waiver Program is NOT considered private duty employment for registry renewal. Medicaid CAP/C Waiver Program is NOT considered private duty employment for registry renewal.
Medication Aides should renew their listing using the Online Renewal Form. Registered Nurses should verify the Medication Aide’s employment using the Online Employment Verification Form. Both forms are required to renew a listing in the North Carolina Medication Aide Registry for Nursing Homes.
The registry expiration date is calculated from the last date of qualified work as a Medication Aide reported on the Online Employment Verification Form by the Registered Nurse. The date that the Medication Aide last worked providing medication administration services delegated and supervised by a Registered Nurse must be within the registration/listing period identified on the form. Expiration dates are extended to the last day of the month.
A listing in the North Carolina Medication Aide Registry for Nursing Homes does NOT qualify an individual to administer medications in an Adult Care facility.
